While starting this post I was surprised about how I didn’t write about it before. It is a simple and unassuming record, but nothing less than perfection. I know several perfect lute albums, combining the genius of the songwriting with the talent of lutenists aswell as the quality of sound and recording. One of the albums that fit this group is "music for vihuela" by Dolores Costoyas. Not only the interpretation of the music of Luys de Narvaez and Miguel de Fuenllana is outstanding, the sound that the argentine lutenist takes from the vihuela is wonderful, but the actual album as a whole is a lute masterclass. No other album has taught me so much as this one, at various levels and details, including learning to breathe throughout the songs. It has been responsible for the biggest jump so far in my musical progression. Every time you listen to it you learn something, you drink from the source, from the absolute perfection. Close your eyes and you’ll visualize yourself in the Spanish mid-sixteenth century courts.

Ao iniciar este post fiquei surpreendido como não escrevi sobre ele antes. É um disco simples e despretensioso, mas nada abaixo de perfeito. Conheço vários álbuns de alaúde perfeitos, que aliam a genialidade das composições com o talento dos alaudistas e com a qualidade do som e gravação.
Um dos álbuns que se enquadram nesse grupo é o “music for vihuela” de Dolores Costoyas. Não só a interpretação de algumas das músicas de Luys de Narvaez e Miguel de Fuenllana são extraordinárias, o som que a alaudista Argentina tira da vihuela é maravilhoso, mas o próprio álbum no seu todo é uma aula de alaúde. Nenhum outro álbum me ensinou tanto como esse, em vários níveis e detalhes, incluindo aprender a respirar durante a música. Tem sido responsável pelo maior salto até agora na minha progressão musical. A cada vez que se escuta se aprende algo, se bebe da fonte, da perfeição absoluta. Feche os olhos e se visualizará na corte espanhola em meados do século XVI.
